Have questions about Mercy Pedalers? We’re here to help. Below are answers to some of the questions we’re most frequently asked about our ministry, volunteer opportunities, donations, and outreach to people experiencing homelessness in Sacramento.

There are several ways to volunteer with Mercy Pedalers, including becoming a Mercy Pedaler, serving on a committee, helping with communications and social media, supporting fundraising efforts, or assisting with in-kind donations.

To become a Mercy Pedaler, volunteers must provide their own bicycle or tricycle, helmet, and carrier or basket; commit to at least one two-hour volunteer shift each week; and be available to ride during daylight hours between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., seven days a week. Volunteers must also complete the Volunteer Application and sign a Release of Liability Waiver before participating.

Yes. Not every volunteer opportunity requires riding. Volunteers can support Mercy Pedalers through the Finance Committee, In-Kind Donations Committee, webpage and social media, communications, photography, fundraising, and other special projects.

Yes. Businesses, community organizations, churches, schools, and other groups can support Mercy Pedalers through donations, volunteer service, fundraising, outreach support, or other community partnerships. Contact us to discuss current opportunities.

You can support Mercy Pedalers by making a financial donation, donating a bicycle or tricycle, providing essential supplies, donating gift cards, or contributing your time and professional skills. Every contribution helps support outreach to people experiencing homelessness in Sacramento.

Yes. Mercy Pedalers gratefully accepts gently used bicycles and tricycles, bike carriers and baskets, saddle bags, cycling equipment, and safety gear. Financial donations can also help the ministry purchase or repair bicycles and equipment.

Donations may be dropped off at Dorothy Smith’s Office at 1919 21st Street, Suite 204, Sacramento, CA 95811. Please call (916) 451-0226 before dropping off a donation. If the office is closed, donations may be left outside the office door.

Bicycle and equipment pickups may be available. Please contact Sister Libby Fernandez at (916) 879-5581 or LMFernandez@sistersofmercy.org to arrange a pickup or discuss a potential donation.

Yes. Mercy Pedalers gratefully accepts $5 gift cards to McDonald’s, Target, Safeway, and similar retailers. Gift cards can provide flexible support for people experiencing homelessness and individuals in need.

Financial contributions processed through Mercy Foundation are tax-deductible. Mercy Pedalers is a supported ministry of the Sisters of Mercy West Midwest Community, and financial contributions are processed through Mercy Foundation, a nonprofit organization recognized as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
